Wrapping Paper

These are some photos which I took of my surroundings. I thought they would make great pattern designs for wrapping paper as they are vibrant and visually have interesting shapes. I really like theses patterns as they are a variety of plants, which I have always found inspiration from.

Reflection

I am coming to the end of my year 2 Foundation Degree in Design, I have enjoyed my time working on a range of different projects. I have achieved personal goals like putting together a portfolio of my work and working on own projects within game development.I have also Completed projects which were exiting like creating a wind in the willow book cover.  I have gained photo-shop skills and put together PDF presentations using the software which i am more then happy with as the result looks professional.I have also developed my skills using sketch up, and created some amazing results. Through out the summer I will continue to develop my photo-shop and sketch up skill and set myself challenges working on projects.

Paul Smith
Paul Smith is a well know fashion designer, who is opening his new shop soon, he is mostly know for his suits and men wear, he has asked if people could send in envelopes so I have designed one and if selected will be displayed in his new shop. I have used my photo-shop skills to make this picture brighter as the image was a bit dark when i took it.

People

These are my fashion illustrations that I have done for a previous project, the brief was to create something loosely related to an interior, so my idea was to create something that could be displayed on the wall. My inspiration for this project was fashion illustrations, so I developed my skills within painting, and digital packages. I enjoyed this project has it allowed me to work on the elements within design which interest me and let me experiment with colour, style and produced an interesting outcome.

Monochrome

'The Little Black Dress' By Hayden Williams is a good example of monochrome within fashion illustration as it's bold using black and white to really make it a timeless classic. By creating this illustration using black and white it makes it look vintage so it fits in with the vintage style dress. Hayden Williams sketches are all inspirational and current as Williams sketches a number of stars such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake and custom designs in films such as Disney's Oz, Mean Girls and The Devil wears Prada.

Shape & Form

These are my clay models that I have created for my world war 2 project, my concept was to create a sculpture inspired by the war, my idea was inspired by the posters advertising to the public about 'grow your own'. as food was in running short during this time, I wanted to celebrate that people grew there own food, so by using clay to form my design of wellies I was able to show my development. I added to my models  using wire to form trees, I cut up sponges in different shapes and used orange beads to describe leaves and fruit adding another element to this design.

Texture

Texture can be found anywhere and everywhere, these are just some of the textures that are in our everyday lives, I have done this mood board to help me decide on what texture I could use for my spectacular sculpture concept for the Nation Picture Theater. The sculpture is relating to world war 2 as people worked on growing their own crops 'grow your own' was the slogan on posters to help people eat healthy and not run short of important foods during world war 2. My idea is to construct a welly promoting the fact that people grew their own food during this time.

Window Display With A Twist
This is a window display with a difference as the models are illustrations instead of being the traditional manikins. I like this concept as it works well to sell the products, which in this case are a girls best accessory her bags! I like that they have added a splash of colour within the display by adding oversize paper flowers, which makes it fresh and fun. The products are easy to view in this design as they are bold block colours. I like the way the illustrations are drawn as they look fashionable keeping in theme with the brand and image of the shop.

Gift Boxes
These are my little experiments that I have been working on since I found the inspiration from my last post, I have recycled materials that I had around the house and made some cute little gift boxes. I have recycled a couple of book pages for one of the boxes then added satin coloured ribbon to add a little detail which I think works really well. I have also made a simple  package with just a little string around it, simple but effective. For the next box I used a bird stamp, then used ribbon to make the design more special, To finish the design off I used a flower and glued a pearl from a necklace in the center.

I have to say the one I like the best has to be this purple one as it's overall design is beautiful and the two satin ribbons add a touch of elegance to this gift box. I have also recycled a section from a necklace which forms the maid feature for this construction.

Construction

How to Build a Card Box 018
I have found this beautiful box design online which has been constructed by Lee Conrey using card stock, so the sustainability of the box is sturdy for it's propose. In this design they have used recycled materials such as the oversize button and string in the middle of the amazing big pink flower.

The colours that have been used complement each other beautifully and work together to form a pretty design, the black card stock and satin bow detail help make this design stand out and make the other colours look more crisp.

Materials
I was inspired by Tord Boontje, 'Until Dawn Curtains' which contains simple but effective outlines of  flowers and animals of all shapes and sizes delicately cut out of one piece of paper to form a curtain which can be purchased in different colours.

There are lots of materials out there, but i like good old traditional paper as you can create something different and beautiful every time. This is one of my designs which I worked on for my sculpture concept as part of my Degree in Design. I drew out different styles and sizes of flowers onto cartage paper then cut them out carefully using a craft knife, then placed onto a background.

I enjoyed this project as the concept of this design was to create something 3D, this develop into a curtain which would be hung in the Learning Resource Center (library) which is why I wanted to use paper to link in with the books of this location.

Experimenting using Sketch up

Sketch Up is fun and easy to make fantastic 3D images, using a range of tools provided, these are just some which I have produced.  The designs of the rooms are amazing as they are influenced by the modern style.  I think colour is an important part of making a room at it's best, so by using a colour pallet of bold exciting colours i have made these rooms stand out.
